The Thomistic Institute (TI) was established in 1958 in Warsaw on the initiative of cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, the then Primate of Poland. For over 40 years the Institute has dealt with the gathering of information regarding theological research carried out in the 20th century and with works concerning the history of theology, with a special consideration given to medieval thought. Numerous publications constitute a proof of the TI’s broad scope of activities.

At the moment, the works and the thought of Saint Thomas Aquinas (1224–1274) are the centre of projects carried out by the Institute. The idea is to make the works of Saint Thomas Aquinas more available to all those who are interested in philosophy and theology. In Poland, Saint Thomas Aquinas still needs to be discovered as a theologian.
